Europe's Canals

The European canal system spans the length and breadth of the continent. Some canals even date from Roman times. Whilst larger canals are still used for commercial traffic there are miles of waterways which meander through the countryside at a more leisured pace. As one of the principal modes of transport in ages past, the canals link the most historic and culturally rich towns, passing through pastoral landscapes.

The Odyssey

Unlike the sixty-odd hotel barges currently in operation on the canals, we do not have a fixed “bus tour” itinerary.  Exploring the forgotten and undiscovered, as well as the better-known parts of Europe, our voyages are tailored to the tastes and interests of our clients.

Guests can enjoy an individual cruise or return each year for a programme of voyages, joining Golden Odyssey as she moves through the more than ten thousand miles of continental waterways.

Sample Itineraries

Our decision to begin our odyssey in Flanders, Belgium, was based upon its central location in Europe and its unique scenery and cultural attractions.  France is only a day’s sail South, Holland a day North.  Belgium is also renowned for its cuisine, which even the French journey to savour!

As a private charter yacht we are pleased to tailor itineraries to meet the requirements of our clients. Amongst the bespoke routes we have created  for clients are: a cruise partially in Flanders' Fields and partially in France for a client who wishes to trace WWI history, one in the beautiful Ardennes mountains which we will enter via the recently-completed ship lift at Strepy-Thieu rising over two hundred feet, and one in France cruising from Paris to the Champagne region

Special Excursions

Every region of the European Continent has special attractions, and our charter guests often have special interests or requirements.
If your canal cruise takes you through  Southern Flanders and you wish to go sand yachting on the miles of ocean beach,  we'll be happy to arrange it.  Why not take a balloon trip high above the fields and villages? Perhaps a chauffeured limousine to whisk you off to an evening trying your luck in a casino; or a visit to a museum or chateau.  Whatever it is, just inform us and leave the rest to us.

It's our goal to provide you with the perfect vacation.
